Academic Signing program awards almost $2 million

Almost $2.1 million in scholarships has been doled out to 343 ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs at 13 area schools in recent weeks.

The scholarships were given as part of UL Lafayette’s Academic Signing program.

ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs who have been offered an academic scholarship from the university are invited to a signing ceremony that takes place at their high school.

ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ officials visit the schools for the signing ceremonies, which are attended by teachers, parents and other family members.

Scholarship recipients sign a certificate of intent, have their photograph taken and receive a gift from the university.

The combined average ACT score of all ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs who received scholarships was 25.8 and the combined average GPA was 3.62.

The total number of ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs and scholarship amounts awarded at each school is:

• Abbeville – Six ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs received $9,000 in scholarships
• Acadiana – 28 ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs received $123,000 in scholarships
• Carencro – 15 ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs received $52,000 in scholarships
• Catholic High, New Iberia – 14 ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs received $40,000 in scholarships
• Episcopal School of Acadiana – Two ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs received $12,000 in scholarships
• Kaplan – Five ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs received $12,000 in scholarships
• Lafayette – 96 ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs received $837,000 in scholarships
• New Iberia Senior High – 24 ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs received $143,000 in scholarships
• North Vermilion – Eight ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs received $29,000 in scholarships
• Notre Dame – 20 ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs received $91,000 in scholarships
• Ovey Comeaux – 45 ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs received $145,000 in scholarships
• St. Thomas More – 69 ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs received $364,000 in scholarships
• Teurlings Catholic – 41 ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs received $211,000 in scholarships
