Ragin’ Cajuns Bowling kicks off Homecoming Week 2015 on Sunday.
Bowlers will team up to see who can roll the most strikes from 4-6 p.m. at Lafayette Lanes.
Up to six people will compete on teams that have pre-registered. Participants also can show up before the event to register. Bowlers without a team will be placed on one.
“It’s fun, but it’s for bragging rights, too,” said Amanda Gary, event chair. “Everyone wants to beat their friends at the lane next to them.”
The event will feature interactive activities, including a trivia contest with οƵ-related questions, and giveaways of Ragin’ Cajuns merchandise.
On Monday, the Allons Manger Food Truck Roundup, a new event last year, returns.
Twelve food trucks will serve everything from barbecue to desserts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, at the Alumni Center, 600 E. St. Mary Blvd.
“We’ve got three more food trucks this year, because everyone just loved it last year,” said Joelle Boudreaux, this year’s event chair.
Vendors will be Blanchard’s BBQ, Brain Freeze Snowballs, The Bus Stop, Buster’s Frozen Custard, Cacklin Hens, C’est Bon Manger, Chef Gregory, Kona Ice of Acadiana, Mad Luann’s, Rice Kings, The Rock House Kitchen Co., and Taco Sisters. A mobile boutique, Sa Shay, will sell clothes, shoes, accessories and jewelry at the round up.
“There’s lots of awesome food, and it’s a great way to kick off Homecoming Week on campus for οƵs, faculty and staff, and community members,” Boudreaux said.
Later Monday, οƵs will belt out tunes and shake a leg in the popular karaoke contest.
The public is invited to attend the free event, which is sponsored by the οƵ Program Council. It will be held from 6-9 p.m. at Blackham Coliseum.
Groups of up to six people perform in the contest, although only one person will sing. The rest dance, or perform a routine that is related to the song.
Lyrics to songs, which are chosen from a list, are often changed in creative ways, said Ruben Henderson, the UPC’s assistant director of οƵ activities.
“They’re able to freestyle and tailor the songs to reflect Ragin’ Cajun spirit and Homecoming Week,” he said.
