Quiz bowl team competes in regional tourney on campus after state win

Honors ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs at the ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ of ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ at Lafayette competed against teams from four ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ and Texas schools during a regional quiz bowl tournament that was held on campus.

Rice beat Texas A&M in the finals of the competition on March 22. Tulane placed third, ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ Tech took fourth and UL Lafayette was fifth.

The quiz bowl competition consisted of teams of four ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs who answered general knowledge questions during timed rounds.

The week before the regional competition, the ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ’s quiz bowl team won a statewide tournament held in conjunction with the ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ Collegiate Honors Conference. The statewide event was held March 14 and 15 at the ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ of ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ at Monroe.

Teams from five other schools participated in the statewide contest. They were: Delgado Community College, LSU-Shreveport, Nicholls State, ULM and the ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵ of New Orleans.

UL Lafayette quiz bowl team members who claimed the state trophy and competed in the regional event are: Zachary Comeaux, a senior majoring in chemical engineering; Thomas Credeur, a senior majoring in mathematics; Dominic Lloyd, a freshman majoring in finance; and Tyler Quebedeaux, a junior majoring in political science and history.

Eight other UL Lafayette ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs participate in quiz bowl activities.

Four of them compete as a team. Those ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs are: Aurore Hamilton, a junior majoring in political science; Joshua Lovera, a sophomore majoring in biology; Kristopher Meche, a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering; and Henry Robillard, a sophomore majoring in psychology.

Four other ÑÇÖÞ×ÔοÊÓƵs play recreationally at quiz bowl team meetings. They are: Jorge Belgodere, a senior majoring in chemical engineering; William Benezech, a freshman majoring in physics; Khang Mai, a senior majoring in chemical engineering; and James Mallory, a junior majoring in computer engineering.
